Commissioner Ken Russell is the elected official for District 2.
As a small businessman with an international profile, Ken entered Miami politics in 2015 with an optimistic view on positive change. As Commissioner, Ken has focused on big picture issues such as affordable housing, sea level rise and transit options.
He was instrumental in passing the Miami Forever Bond, which will invest $400 million into housing, parks, streets and flood mitigation throughout the city. He has also led the way on passing inclusionary housing policies, building the city’s public Baywalk and expanding trolley routes, bike lanes and other mobility options.
Commissioner Russell has made resilience a priority, particularly for flood protection and water quality. He sponsored a successful ban of the herbicide glyphosate in all City-owned properties, fought for funding for more water quality testing, and passed guidelines for environmentally friendly landscape practices to reduce the harmful chemicals flowing from our streets into our waterways. Russell also has worked – through funding and advocacy — to complete the missing links of the city’s Baywalk and Riverwalk, not only as a waterfront linear park, but as the front line in our battle against sea level rise.
